Introduction to Departmental Structure
Department of Pharmaceutics

Pharmaceutics is one of the major departments of ILM College of Pharmaceutical Sciences. The department offers courses spread from first till the last semester of Doctor of Pharmacy Program. Pharmaceutics is about an applied science encompassing the drug discovery, physical and chemical characterization, dosage form designing, formulation development, prototype and industrial manufacturing, quality control analysis and evaluation, approaches to drug delivery and disposition, while being used safely and effectively by patients.
Department of Pharmaceutical chemistry
The department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry offers courses in Organic Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Analysis, Biochemistry and Medicinal Chemistry. Together these courses provide the future pharmacists a solid background in:
- fundamentals of organic chemistry and its application in synthesis of complex drug molecules.
- Tools and techniques required to analyze drug molecules during drug development, production and quality control.
- Understanding biomolecules and their role in health and disease.
- Understanding the structure-activity relationship (SAR) of major classes of therapeutic agents.

Department of Basic Medical Sciences

Basic Medical Sciences have always served as the backbone of any undergraduate or graduate program in pharmaceutical sciences. In Pharm.D program, the disciplines of Anatomy, Pathology, Physiology and Pharmacology have been imparting high-quality basiceducation to its pharmaceutical students in an effort to train them as competent pharmacists and researchers for tomorrow. These subjects make the foundation for understanding of the clinical teaching and training. The Department strongly focuses on multidisciplinary research and has successfully established collaborative research projects with the clinical departments at Tayyab Medicare and Khawaja Arshad Hospital Sargodha.
Department of Pharmacognosy
Pharmacognosy is the science which involves the study of natural products/ plants etc. to discover new drugs. The subject operates at the intersection of Chemistry and Biology. The department of Pharmacognosy at the ILM College of Pharmaceutical Sciences offers basic and advanced courses during the Pharm.D program, which cover both the theoretical and experimental aspects of the subject.
